China Shipbuilding Industry Corporation (CSIC) has signed a memorandum of understanding with Fujian Guohang Ocean Shipping to construct two 70,000 gt cruise ships.
The vessels have been allocated to CSIC’s Wuchang Shipbuilding arm. BRL Consultants' chief executive Barry Luthwaite told PST that Wuchang has “nurtured ambitions to enter the deepsea cruise market for some time”.
But he added “It is far from a done deal and a lot more negotiating is required before any order firms.”
The vessel owner operates a high-speed ferry service under a joint venture with Fujian Cross Strait Ferry Corporation in the Taiwan Strait.
